Our Commitment

We believe you should know exactly what data leaves your device and when. This document explains every scenario in which information is sent to an external service.

1. When AI Features Are Used

AI features are only triggered when you explicitly tap an AI tool button — for example "Generate Cover Letter", "Interview Prep", "Job Analysis", "Resume Score", or "AI Import". Nothing is sent automatically in the background.

2. What Is Sent

When an AI tool is triggered, the following data may be included in the API request:

• The job description you are targeting
• Relevant sections of your resume profile (work experience, skills, education)
• Any text you type in the AI chat
• The text extracted from a resume file you upload

Only the fields relevant to the specific tool are included. For example, Resume Score sends your profile and the job description. Cover Letter generation sends your profile summary and the job description.

3. Which AI Services

On supported iPhones, AI runs on-device with Apple Intelligence and nothing is sent anywhere. If you connect your own API key instead, data is sent to that provider:

• Anthropic (Claude) — anthropic.com
• OpenAI (ChatGPT) — openai.com
• Google (Gemini) — ai.google.dev

Your API key is stored securely in iOS Keychain on your device. Careertimeline never transmits your API key to its own servers.

4. Data Retention

Careertimeline does not retain any data sent to AI APIs. The requests are stateless — data is sent, a response is received, and the transaction ends. Check each provider's API data policy for their retention practices:

• Anthropic: anthropic.com/privacy
• OpenAI: openai.com/policies
• Google: ai.google.dev

5. No Account Required for Core Features

The job tracker, profile builder, planner, and insights features work entirely offline. AI features run on-device with Apple Intelligence when available, or with your own API key — and are completely optional. You can use the full core app without any data leaving your device.

6. How to Opt Out

On-device Apple Intelligence keeps everything on your iPhone. To avoid any external AI calls entirely, simply don't add an API key in Settings → AI Assistants — without a key, no data is ever sent to any external AI service.

7. File Uploads

When you upload a resume file (PDF, DOCX, TXT), the text is extracted locally on your device. The extracted text is then included in an AI API request only if you tap "Import with AI" or trigger an AI tool. The original file is not transmitted — only the extracted text.

8. Analytics & Crash Reporting

The current version of Careertimeline does not include any third-party analytics SDK or crash reporter. No usage telemetry is collected or transmitted.
